There is something odd and different about the cartoon files, but I haven't been able to figure out what..

What DVD program are you using to get when you get this error? You might have stumbled upon a clue to what's going on.

The main one I use for ease and speed is TMPG DVD Author by Pegasys. But I have other authoring programs and they all have problems with these cartoons. If I transcode the cartoon first with another program to make it dvd compatible, the resulting file has a normal audio track but a slo-mo picture that only manages to display about half the cartoon
before the audio comes to an end. As I said in my original post, the problem is with the segments of information called "GOP" segments. When encoding for mpg2, these should be kept at a standard length, and that apparently wasn't done on these cartoons.
